Elegant long sleeved wedding dresses
As the summer begins to fade and we begin the process of organising our autumn wardrobes in preparation. My thoughts are racing with ideas as I search for inspiration and ideas for elegant autumn and winter bridal wear. I am looking for trends, shapes and materials that will provide romantic, elegant inspiring bridal looks for my brides as those we have seen emerging from the recent glossy catwalk shows.
One trend that I am sure will continue to dominate the bridal market for the next few seasons will be long sleeves. We all remember just how we gasped at the elegance of Kate Middleton’s Grace Kelly inspired long sleeved couture lace wedding dress and, at how Megan followed through with a equally elegant pure white Givenchy gown – again with simple long sleeves?
All in all, both dresses have influenced wedding dress trends with a growing number of brides now eager to experiment with ‘cover up’ options involving sleeves if only for the traditional church service element of the day. You can probably already tell that I love the subtle effect and contrasting addition that long sleeves bring to a dress shape, not least for my older brides who want the added confidence but also to add that extra touch of style and sophistication.
Sleeves are always flattering and look utterly gorgeous on just about any bride. The options and styles are plentiful and playful from fluttering sheer silk chiffon, lace or organza, to modern bell, lantern or fluted kaftan style sleeves. One thing you can be sure of is that classic shapes will always surpass fashion and live on long after trends have faded and gone! And with that said, below are a selection of long sleeved wedding dresses to inspire you from the Cynthia Grafton-Holt Couture private collection and other well known designers whose work I love.
