Janet and Mikes Worcester Wedding

The now Mrs Davies, (who I have known for many years) singled out North London Wedding Dress Maker services from countless others across the UK. Whilst we had lost touch over the years, she knew in her heart that she simply had to find me as she wouldnt have trusted anyone else to create the dream wedding dress that she knew she wanted. Janet, travelled from her home in Worcestershire to our Wembley Park showroom for her first bridal consultation and fell head over heels with the Angelica bridal gown from the new Bridal Collection featured over on the new website – View the Classic Bridal Collection

With just nine months to go until the big day, Janet & Mike had hoped for a small’ish wedding attended by close friends and family at the Hogarths Stone Manor Hotel in the heart of Worcester Kidderminster.

The Angelica gown was the perfect choice for the mature bride – with a few modification of course – such as raising the back neckline and adding full length sheer sleeves and omiting the feathers. Janet wasnt too keen on keeping the thigh high split but, we finally convinced her to show off her shapely legs for as long as she could and conpromised with a chiffon inserts for modesty.

After the initial consultation in the studio, we created a mock up cotton dress for the first fitting and provided a range of different lace designs for Janet to choose from. As we expected, she fell in love immediately with a gorgeous 1920’s style heavily beaded french lace with pearls – but not overly so.

The design of the lace was transformational to the design – so much so that we nicknamed the new design as ‘Janjelica’ in homage.

THE DRESS MAKING PROCESS & FITTINGS

Janets wedding dress was hand crafted using a stretch crepe fabric with the most glorious drape quality. This enable the gown to fit and hug the body without feel overly tight and restrictive. Due to the wide cut of the neckline and the low back , we created a unique bespoke corset designed to aleviate the problem of trying to find a bra and body shaper that would work with the gown. The corset was tailored to Janets measurements, giving her support and addtional shaping for the clean silhouette of the gown.

Traditionally, tailored corsets are nearly always present within bridal couture dresses to provide the support, shape and a framework that holds the lines of the dress on the wearer. However, it is becoming common practice among modern brides who consider the corset to be uncomfortable and unneccesary when in fact, there are multiple additional benefits that a bridal corset will provide. We created a bespoke corset with a balconette neckline exclusively for Janets gown. Janet had initially purchased around three corsets which she would bring along to the fitting. However, each one had problems of its own. Either too lumpy under the slender fit of the design. Or, the back neckline protruding along with shoulder straps. Or, the bustline was completely wrong for the design and spoiling the effects that her gown needed to look super elegant.

HOW LONG DOES THE BESPOKE WEDDING DRESS PROCESS TAKE?

From start to finish the whole process from re-designing Janets designer wedding dress took over seven months. This is a much shorter timeframe than with gowns that are totally one-of-a-kind. In total Janet visited London three times for her fittings but as these were spread out over several months, we managed to work closely with her diary so that the visits were planned with other events that she had to attend in the city.
